Field Notebook: Two Wings and Hollow Bones

Today I saw two geese perched on an ice shelf before a melting river.  I wish I could do that.  Sit on the sheets of ice and dip my hands in the freezing water that's dribbling by.  Well, I'd fall in.  But I suppose if I were a goose I couldn't wish for anything, or wonder at the wonders of nature.  I'd be noisy and obnoxious, and fail to appreciate the river below.  I guess I'll stay human and refrain from leaving my excrement in public places.
